Ballets Résiduels is a research-creation project that explores the Champ des Possibles, a former industrial site in Montreal, through the use of polysensory instruments. These instruments translate cartographic data on soil contaminants into multisensory signals such as scents, haptic feedback, sound, and the activation of metallic residues with magnetic fields. Participants use these tools to uncover hidden pollutants and experience the invisible contamination of post-industrial soils through a multisensory approach.
Four participatory and performative interventions were held between July and September 2024 invited participants to explore different areas of the site, encouraging discussions on environmental challenges and sustainable urban practices through aesthetic experience. By combining art, design, and environmental detection principles, the project promotes ecological awareness and fosters new forms of attention with urban ecosystems, while proposing new models of data representation and perception.
